Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas has a new general director. Eduardo Iglesias assumes the position, replacing Durcesio Mello, who was acting as interim director. The change in command was approved by the shareholders during an Extraordinary General Assembly, held on Thursday morning. Eduardo Iglesias is 31 years old and had a strong participation in the implementation of the business model in the club. Initially, he worked as a financial planner for the team's football department. Later, from 2024, he took on the role of player trading manager. The new general director assumes the position amidst a tumultuous and uncertain political and financial situation for Botafogo's SAF. Durcesio Mello, who presided over the associated club from 2021 to 2024, was named temporary manager of the team, thanks to a decision by the arbitration tribunal of the Getulio Vargas Foundation on April 23 of this year, which removed John Textor from the command of Botafogo. The General Assembly on Thursday had the objective of deliberating on whether Mello would remain in the position. However, during the online meeting, he chose to announce his resignation, claiming that his role in the SAF had already been fulfilled. Eduardo Iglesias has a strong connection to the project built by John Textor's company for the Glorioso. Graduated in Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Iglesias has a clear vision of what needs to be done to put the club back on the glorious and solid path that was being built inside and outside the field. Botafogo has a centenary history, a passionate fan base, and extremely qualified professionals. I believe in this collective strength to overcome the challenges and achieve new goals, said the new general director. The SAF of Botafogo recorded record revenues of R$ 1.4 billion last year, but reached a total debt of R$ 2.01 billion in the period, a growth of 29.35% compared to the previous period. The club is engaged in a legal battle with Eagle Football Holdings Bidco Limited, and obtained, on April 28, a sentence that suspended the majority shareholder's rights to decide on the direction of the SAF, while keeping Textor away from the management of Botafogo. Moving forward, the new general director will have to deal with these challenges and find a solution to put the club back on the path to success. So, what to expect from the new general director? But one thing is certain, Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas needs strong and decisive leadership to overcome the challenges that lie ahead. The new general director assumes the position with a clear vision of what needs to be done, and with the necessary experience to put the club back on the glorious and solid path that was being built inside and outside the field.
